Food Safety and Public Health
As pork producers, we have the responsibility to provide a safe and wholesome product to you and your loved ones. We have practices set in place and work closely with a swine nutritionist to make sure we are raising a healthy, quality pork product that consumers will enjoy.
The Benefits of Pork in Your Diet
Pork is a lean, nutrient rich protein source that is part of a healthy and balanced diet. Pork provides your body with vitamins and minerals such as thiamin, selenium, protein, niacin, vitamin B6, phosphorus, riboflavin, zinc, and potassium.
Minimal Use of Antibiotics
We strive to produce our pigs with as little antibiotic exposure as possible. We first try treatment with non-antibiotic therapies. These include aspirin, ibuprofen, electrolytes, and vitamin supplementation. If these methods do not work, we then consult a veterinarian to determine the correct course of action so the animal’s well-being can be addressed as quickly as possible.
Withdrawal Time Process
When an antibiotic is given to a pig, we follow strict withdrawal protocol to ensure pigs are residue-free when they are sent to market. Withdrawal times are listed on the medication’s label, and meet the standards of both our foreign and domestic customers. Once the drug is administered, the pig cannot be taken to market until the withdrawal time has passed.
Our Commitment to the Safety of Our Customers
We understand the importance of properly caring for our livestock to ensure the product we produce is safe and healthy for the public. Check out the other ways JWV prioritizes our pigs and our community.
